Magazines: Front cover production task - learner response

Create a new blogpost called 'Magazine cover learner response' and complete the following tasks:

1) Add your finished magazine cover as a JPEG image.

                                                           

2) Type up your feedback from your teacher. If you've received this by email, you can copy and paste it across - WWW and EBI. You don't need to include a mark or grade if you don't want to.

WWW: Ramla, your final product is of satisfactory quality. You demonstrate sound application of knowledge and understanding of media language as evidence by your photography on your front cover. I think the background setting works on this occasion and the long shot also feels very similar to the 10 Men Magazine house branding. Both choices communicate generally clear meanings throughout the product.

EBI: I think the biggest lesson from this has to be where you placed your masthead (title of publication) on all of the examples that I have seen have this placed in the upper left-hand corner of the page but yours is on the bottom left. Perhaps this would not be recognisable for an existing target audience. The other lesson from this task is your choice of typography, the style is not similar to the one the actual magazine uses so again this could detract from engaging a potential target audience. Finally, the planning section of your blog post is incomplete, too brief and missing a sketch of your magazine for your real coursework you need to ensure all components are complete to receive a top mark and grade.

3) Consider your mark against the mark scheme above. What are the strengths of your production based on the the mark scheme? Think about magazine cover conventions and the media language techniques you have used to communicate with your audience (e.g. mise-en-scene, camera shot etc.) Notice the focus on narrative in the mark scheme for Media language.

Satisfactory application of knowledge on media language and media production with a wide shot that mimics the original magazine, due to the fact that I was wearing all black and layers and decided to sit down last minute at the photoshoot instead of standing up, making the clothes blend together becoming unimpressive due to a lack of editing. 

4) Look at the mark scheme again. What can you do to move your mark higher and, if required, move up a level?

A more effective communication of meanings throughout the piece as is comes off less of a fashion magazine and more abstract and editorial.

5) What would be one piece of advice you would give a student about to start the same magazine cover project you have just completed? 

To spend slighty more on timeof day and lighting a location will recieve.
